Lodz, Poland. June 17, 2017. A strong total two hours fifty-one minutes from Russians came away from their re-match with a comfortable 3-2 (31-29, 17-25, 25-19, 27-29, 15-13) win over USA in front of 5,000 spectators at Atlas Arena on Saturday of the 2017 FIVB World League. Both team certainly showed a great amount of heart in the opening hour of the match, but USA were just not able compete with Russia in the final. With a quick turnover Taylor Sander produced the play of the match – combining both attacks and blocks, to score the top 28 points but just seemed unable to make it count. Egor Klyuka was clearly seen to stand on an opposition players to hold 22 points. The replay seemed to show the player first holding the player down and then standing on their face before moving away.

In the last pool play match, Russia will play with Iran on June 18 at 17:25 local time.

Sergey Shlyapnikov, Russia coach – “We lost a lot of strength in the court today, but we are happy about the victory. We are in good mood after the win with Poland and USA.”

Dmitriy Kovalev, Russia captain – “It was a really interesting match and we are happy that we won. To be honest it was either win or lose, but we proved the strength of our character, our team spirit, and won.
