Russia narrowly got the better of a spirited over Iran in 3-0 and booked a ticket to Final Six

Lodz, Poland. June 18, 2017. After beating USA comfortably last match, Russia were made to work much harder on Sunday afternoon at Atlas Arena. Russia narrowly got the better of a spirited over Iran in 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-18) of the 2017 FIVB World League. Russia put Iran under immense pressure in the first half, with Russians attackers Egor Klyuka asserting control over Mojtaba Mirzajanpour. Egor Klyuka added without tension in the whole match after Russia hold third-set wins on their hands, and scored 13 points. Iranian Mojtaba Mirzajanpour picked up 12 points but unnecessary mistakes to make his team down.

Russia will be prepared for their Final Six in Curitiba, Brazil on July 7-9.

Russia coach Sergey Shlyapnikov: We did a good job. It is a result which we expected. Players showed discipline on court. Before the next matches we need to improve our game in all elements.

Russia wing spiker Egor Klyuka: I’m happy that we won, and we achieved the exact result we wanted. For us seing Iran playing their reseves didn’t matter because our staff prepared us to play against all of the team.
