A rampant Russia with a convincing win, disposing of Brazil 3-0 and win for the 3rd place

Brno, Czech Republic. July 2, 2017. A rampant Russia with a convincing win, disposing of Brazil 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-19) and win for the 3rd place of the FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship. It was a must-win match for Russia as they did battle against the strong opponent Brazil at the DRFG Arena in Brno on Sunday. After the start of the match, the two teams stormed the tactical spirals between the players, looking for territorial advantages early. A brilliant solo effort by Aleksey Kononov, earned 13 points for his team. Not long after that a slick exchange between Anton Semyshev and Dmitriy Yakovlev resulted in another 10 points try.

The match ended 3-0, as Russia defeated Brazil in emphatic fashion at DRFG Arena to claim 3rd place for the 2017 FIVB Men’s U21 World Championship.

Vladimir Khromenkov, coach of Russia: “Today’s match was not too difficult because yesterday Brazil played a very long and hard match. Unfortunately, we did not fight for the gold medal, but the bronze is also very important to us and we are happy to have won it.”

Konstantin Abaev, captain of Russia: “We are really happy for the victory. It is s great success for us after yesterday’s sad result. Brazil produced many more mistakes than us today and that decided the match.”
