Konya, Turkey. July 4, 2017. Russia U17 comfortable victors over Spain in 3-1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-17) in Pool II of the 2017 CEV Men’s U17 European Championship. The afternoon match at the Konya Municipality Sports and Congress Center in Turkey left the home crowd cheerful as Russia comfortably beat Spain 3-1 to record their third win and remain unbeaten so far in Pool II. The opening quarter of the game was a tightly contested one as both sides were equal to the challenge. Both sides go at each other as Spain showed character when they managed to contain the Russia team. Russian Omar Kurbanov made no mistake with the conversion to score 24 points, became the top scorer of the match, followed by Stanislav Antonov controlled the match and scored 21 points.

Russia will be scheduled to play with Czech Republic on July 5 at 15:00 local time.

Russia coach Konstantin Brianskii said his motivation after the first set loss was key to the win.

He said: “It was a surprise for us because we are big, strong and powerful. But we got our game together in the second set and managed to overcome Spain.” He was also fairly bold in his prediction about how his side would fare going forward in the competition. He added: “I think Russia will be in the gold medal match at the end of the tournament.”
