Curitiba, Brazil. July 5, 2017. Canada stared down the eye of Russia to win 3-0 (25-23, 29-27, 25-17) in the final round of the 2017 FIVB World League. The one department where the team lacked precision was the execution of their game. The team worked tirelesly this week to ensure every player in the team focuses on his individual tasks. Russia should ensure that their abilities to spread the ball out wide and penetrate any defensive line, should create enough opportunities for their spikers to keep the score board ticking over.

Russia will persist with their game plan where they intend to play high tempo with Brazil, ensuring quality ball for the backline and creating space for the spikers. The players will once again be a valuable weapon in the match for the Brazilian. Russia will not underestimate Brazil on July 6 and will play with high intensity from them.

Sergey Shliapnikov, Russia coach:“We have played the first two sets on a leveled basis against Canada, and we could have won any one of them or maybe both. Unfortunately we didn’t and in the third set we lost our focus and couldn’t be up to the level anyone would expect from Russia.”

Dmitry Kovalev, Russia captain:“Certainly, the entire team fell into many errors today. That’s a point we need to work on if we want to succeed on upcoming matches.”
