Konya, Turkey. July 5, 2017. U17 Russia showed character by defeating Czech Republic to remain unbeaten after two matches on the road in 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17) in Pool II of the 2017 CEV Men’s U17 European Championship. Russia were dominating the match in all disciplines, with physical and attacking. Individual brilliance also played a significant role. They used their ball possession effectively and turned it in to opportunities to score and performed like a team that could not be defeated on the day. Stanislav Antonov and Omar Kurbanov were prominent in the match, creating opportunities for the backline while the forwards also excelled in their game to score 17 points. However, the defending Czech Republic player Jiri Mikulenka had the last say in the match and never gave up to score the top 23 points.

Russia will be scheduled to play with Belgium on July 7 at 15:00 local time.

Coach Konstantin Brianskii praised his side but was not getting carried away. “Yesterday was our first win and now we have two,” he said. “We are playing well but we must keep going.”
