Cairo, Egypt. August 18, 2017. Russian boys took giant step towards being crowned Algeria with a convincing 4-0 (15-8, 15-11, 15-11, 15-8) under the new scoring system in Pool B of the 2017 FIVB U23 Men’s World Championship on Friday. Russia were forced Algeria to come from 15-8 down, managed to clinch a vital bonus point by scoring eight tries to keep the pressure on the opponent side. Denis Bogdan barged his way to make 12 points, followed by his teammate Sergey Pirainen continued his impressive form to score 10 points.

In the second match, Russian boys will face Turkey on Saturday at 20:00 local time.

Russia head coach, Andrey Voronkov: “We will do our best to play good volleyball and keep on winning. For this team this is a new championship and, who knows, maybe tomorrow there will be another champion.”

Russia captain, Pavel Pankov: “We played a good game and concentrated on our serving and we are confident that we can win this championship.”
