Tokyo, Japan. September 6, 2017. Russia produced a convincing 22 blocks to hold out Japan by 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 28-26) of the FIVB Women’s World Grand Champions Cup. The first half was dominated by Japan, as they managed to hold onto the ball for the majority of the 15 minutes, and managed to put 3 points away against Russia in the first set. However, Russia showed their effective cohesion between the backs and forwards with tries originating from all over the power, to win three sets. Unfortunately for the Japanese, Russia’s defence held out and they managed to secure a compelling victory, giving the team some momentum heading forward in this season’s tough Grand Challenge campaign.

Russia will move to Nagoya tomorrow, the next match with USA will be scheduled on September 8 at 12:40 local time.
