Nagoya, Japan. September 8, 2017. Russia suffered a shock 2-3 (25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 21-25, 9-15) lost to USA in Nagoya of the FIVB Women’s World Grand Champions Cup at Nippon Gaishi Hall. It was a disappointing – and arguably cruel – way for the top-of-the-log side to crash out; especially on the fifith set, they were thrilling 6 point away to lost against USA. Kimberly Hill and Foluke Akinradewo appeared to dominate most of the match with greater tactical-spiking, which constantly put Russia on the back foot. But, despite the loss, Russia were not pleased with their side’s set-pieces and believed the USA team were “on par”, although Russia lamented that they were unable to keep a close game when play opened up. Nataliya Goncharova produced a lot of quality spikes to mark 27 points, as well we her teammate Tatiana Kosheleva managed it well enough to apply the pressure back to score 25 points.

Russia in the next match with China will be scheduled on September 9 at 12:40 local time.
