Baku, Azerbaijan. September 23, 2017. Russia took an early lead in Pool C with a convincing win over Turkey 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20) of the 2017 CEV Women’s European Championship at National Gymnastics Arena. Nataliya Goncharova issued a stern warning to other title hopefuls, by surprising the lacklustre Turkey by 1-3 in a tense matchup. Russia led 15-8 at final set, Opposite hitter Nataliya Goncharova scored 23 points as well as Tatiana Kosheleva scored 18 points followed. Russia managed to retain their place at the summit of the standings when they won in a tough game against Turkey. Russia is now rank for top spot in Pool C.

Next match, In Pool C, Russia will play against Bulgaria on September 25 at 15:30 local time.

Konstantin Ushakov, head coach of Russia: “I made some changes to the initial starting line-up and I am happy with the way it worked. We have 14 excellent players on our roster and the second lines are always ready to step in when needed and to cope with any situation we could have to face during our matches. To this extent, I am obviously happy. Three out of the four sets we played tonight were extremely close – and the match was a real fight featuring two excellent teams.”
