1442004 Athens Olympic Games Bronze Medalist Rosir Calderón Díaz received Russian citizenship, and she is now eligible to play for the Russian national team. If the head coach enlists her into the Russian national team, it will be very beneficial for the Russian teat, especially in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. It is not the first case happened in the volleyball history. Recall that another high profile  Cuban player, Taismary Agüero Leiva (aka Agüero)  who joined Italy in 2007 in the World Cup and finally helped the team clinch the gold medal and the Olympic Games final round qualification.

General manager of the women’s team Dinamo Krasnodar Andrey Makarov commented this important event for the club.

“First of all, on my own behalf and on our club would like to thank to the Russian Volleyball Federation for aid and assistance in resolving to this issue. Change of sporting nationality is not an easy procedure, time-consuming and is accompanied by certain difficulties. FIVB just wrapped up the long-awaited confirmation that Rosir Calderon is now not only a Russian woman with a civil passport, but also can play sports for the nation. Now we will add Rosir Calderon as a player to the registration list with a Russian passport at a preliminary stage of the Russian Cup, which starts on 3 November.

Rosir Calderón was born in Havana, Cuba, on December 28, 1984 and is the daughter of former national coach Luis Felipe Calderón and former Morenas del Caribe World Champion Erenia Díaz.
